Ahh what do you mean I'll leak?

Every woman throughout her pregnancy journey (that’s 213m women globally per year!) will experience changes in her breasts and/or some form of leakage.

This means you will change your habits and the way you wear bras. Often sore boobs are the first sign of pregnancy and from then you will start to look for different benefits from your bras to ensure maximum comfort.

You will need bras with stretch to accommodate fluctuating size and to provide some relief.

Gone are the days of underwire which can be uncomfortable and increase chance of mastitis (a painful infection). Not only that but leaking can start from as early as when your colostrum (also known as liquid gold) starts to come in from the 2nd trimester, all the way to the end of your breastfeeding journey.

For the average woman, the majority of leaking will occur once your milk comes in shortly after birth and gradually stop after several weeks or months, but for many women, leaking can remain persistent throughout the entire pregnancy journey, causing great inconvenience and frustration.

So, how do leaks happen?

Leaks can happen at any time without warning and spread through bras and clothing causing wet patches in a matter of seconds.

  • When feeding off of one breast, it is often the case the other breast will simultaneously leak.

  • Leaking at night can be more common when there are longer stretches in between feeds.

  • Emotional situations trigger oxytocin which can cause you to leak spontaneously.

  • Warm environments like the shower or exercising encourages milk to flow.

HIGH ABSORBENCY (60ML)

Excuse me, I have a question...

We wish we could give you a concrete answer but every woman is totally different!

Some women leak a high volume of milk from pregnancy all the way through their breastfeeding journey (and some even beyond), whereas other women may leak very minimally.

The cool thing about breast milk is that it is created by demand, not supply. So your baby suckling will send signals to your body to produce the milk to ensure your baby is well nourished.

On average though, your milk supply and leaking should regulate within the first couple of months though may change frequently throughout this period as your body gets used to your babies feeding pattern.

As it is unpredictable how your body may respond and how long your leaking will last, it is often women will over (or under) prepare by buying boxes of breast pads which either aren’t enough or way too many which can either result in urgent shopping trips or large quantities being unused.

At Lesh, our aim is to reduce the wastage that disposable breast pads can cause and to make sure our products can be worn before and after the period of leaking.

There are methods that can help (such as block feeding, feeding lying down, etc) and it’s always important to get advice and direction about these methods directly from a medical professional.

Unfortunately some methods don’t always work for every woman or they find them to be too difficult to implement. Let’s face it, feeding a baby lying down isn’t always easy or possible!

There are loads of uses for your Lesh bra!

Its sports bra design means it is great for pre and post natal low impact exercise and due to the absorbent nature will happily soak perspiration and keep you dry.

As your hormones change throughout your pregnancy journey, you will find yourself extra hot & sweaty on occasions and Lesh will be right there to help keep you comfortable.

The purpose of Lesh is to capture leaks without the need for breastpads.

We have dutifully tested Lesh on mums with oversupply which has resulted in no leaks, but should you find the product is filling up quicker than you’d like, you may have significant oversupply and need to change more frequently.

We’re on a mission to rid the UK of the disposable breast pads that end up in the landfill every year, which can take up a century to decompose! Not only are they bad for the environment, they come with a catalogue of problems:

  • They bunch up and do not sit seamlessly in your bra
  • They shift and move (especially at night) leaving you unprotected
  • They can be visible above the bra line
  • You have to remove them when breastfeeding in public, meaning your friends will see them, you can misplace them, or forget to put them back in
  • They can smell of sour milk if not changed frequently
  • The packaging is loud to open at night, potentially waking your partner or worse - the baby
  • During the multiple nighttime feeds, you lose the pads or worse the pads get stuck to the baby or fall in their cot
  • They contain adhesives and microplastics
  • They’re just a faff!

Reusables are a much more environmentally friendly option and some women use them happily, but some women still suffer from the following issues:

  • Limited absorbency and can leak through very quickly
  • They can be very bulky
  • They have a tendency to move
  • They can feel quite wet and soggy

Breast shells are a great way to capture milk during the day, however, they aren’t recommended for use at night. They also come with instructions to only wear for a few hours during the day so that your nipples can get air to them.

Other things to consider with breast shells is that you do need to change the milk out frequently and appropriately store the milk so it’s safe for your baby. Many women find this adds extra time and inconvenience to their day.

We developed the Lesh FREEFLO Leakproof Nursing bra to eradicate the need for annoying breast pads day and night. Period.

With 4-way stretch providing 360 degree protection, you can wear our innovative bra day or night moving in any direction and feel fully protected for up to 60ml, which is enough to protect even the leakiest breasts day and night. Furthermore, the sporty design can be used for low impact sports activity and support with the post partum sweats, absorbing perspiration to keep you dry.

Of course it’s important you find the right solution for you, but our panel of testers believed that Lesh works much better for them and 100% have said they would make the switch to Lesh over breast pads. See for yourself!
